The Louisville Medical & Education and District, or LOUMED for short, is our city’s downtown home to four interconnected institutions: Jefferson Community & Technical College, Norton Healthcare, University of Louisville Health Sciences Center, and UofL Health. Together, LOUMED provides essential jobs, healthcare and education services for Louisville, the Commonwealth and beyond.

This vital area within our city operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A place where the lights never turn off and the doors never close. It’s truly the only part of our city that never sleeps.

LOUMED is comprised of 22 city blocks, 250 acres, 9.6 million square feet of occupied space in the heart of downtown, attracts over 1.5 million visitors per year world-wide & employs over 16,000 individuals with total salaries surpassing $1 Billion dollars annually.

LOUMED’s shared goal of building tomorrow’s world class medical and education district takes world-class urban planners who have success in revitalizing complex, urban districts and we got the best. City Visions Associates and Gamble Associates have joined our team and have proven successes at Rochester’s Destination Medical Center, Boston’s Longwood Medical Area and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Center. Now they are here to build the future for Louisville’s Medical and Education District.

In 2023, LOUMED will present our overall strategic plan to the new Mayor and Council and begin to advocate for city, state, and federal support to revitalize the LOUMED district.
